The wordcount is 3,000 words (+/- 10%). References do not count towards the total
wordcount.
Research proposal structure
Your research proposal must include the following sections:
1. Title page [containing title of proposed research project and student number]
2. Table of Contents
3. Introduction [background of subject matter and overall research question or aim]
4. Literature Review [critical review of key literature within your chosen research topic that contextualises your research]
5. Research questions and objectives [overall research question or aim and specific research objectives to be addressed or hypotheses to be tested]
6. Methodology [or model appropriate for addressing research question]
7. Data [description of data you plan to use, analysis, and any ethical considerations in data analysis]
8. Ethical considerations [reflection on the ethical issues that may arise in your research]
9. References
Students are encouraged to include data visualization in their proposal. This could take the form of a plot, chart, diagram or concept map that illustrates issues pertinent to the subject matter of the proposal. The data visualization could simply be a snip tool cut of a plot, diagram etc with credit given to source or it could be the students own creation.
