Term Project – Statement of Work (SOW)
Using the ABC Auto Detail business project SOW linked into the content, prepare the Work Break Down Structure for Assignment 5A. Use the Vision software to create the graphical break down of project tasks into small work packages.
Overview
For the term project you will consider you are employed by an IT support organization that is considering implementing simple office management software for ABC Auto Detailing of Marietta.
During this term you will be working through the “Build vs. Buy” decision by gathering requirements, researching vendors…etc. Ultimately your organization will decide to purchase a COTS (commercial off the shelf) system.
The project phases for the term project will start with the initiation of the project through to the Go Live/implementation/support phase. For assignments, you will be creating many of the various documents needed for the project. Many of the assignments will include templates for your team to utilize.
Base Assumptions
Below are the base assumptions for the term project. For many of the assignments you will be asked to determine additional requirements, scheduling dates, personnel necessary, etc. It is your “job” to determine what your needs for the project will be. The objective of the term project is to have you follow through the phases and steps of project management to gain a clear understanding of the various roles that are necessary with in a COTS project.
The client’s current system and some basic requirements
The firm currently uses paper files, manual billing and time tracking using Windows with an Access database. They would like to update to use a modern office management software solution to reduce manual overhead for their growing practice.
The solution will be used by an admin assistant, 2 sanitation engineers and Ms Brickyard the owner.
The new system does not have to run on Windows or Access.
The new acquired management software must track prospective, current, previous customers. The customer information should include name, customer primary contact, status (prospective, current, previous), customer address (street, city, state, zip), phone numbers, email address, car make, car model, car year, billing information if corporate account.
The new system must track services selected, engineer providing the services and provide billing invoices.
It would be nice to have:
Red flag for past due accounts
Contract management
For the assignments in this course which refer to the “term project” use this as your project. One of the many activities will be to determine the type of office management software application that can meet the requirements. Assume you can spend around $300K; you must have a minimum of 3 licenses, and the application can be hosted in-house or by a provider.
THIS IS NOT A DEVELOPMENT PROJECT!
You must find an office management software solution to purchase/lease and implement for the office. The goal of this term project is to familiarize you with the steps, activities and tasks necessary to evaluate COTS applications with your requirements and resources in mind.
