Individual Reflective Report
The individual reflective report will comprise a contemporaneous report of 1,500 words of critical reflection on the phases of the consultancy process.
When reflecting on the consultancy process, you should aim to address the following
questions in your writing: Description – Analysis – Outcomes or Action
The Consulting process – report of what you did or what happened.
In this section, you should refer to the Consulting Life-Cycle (O’Mahoney and Markham, 2013) This should be done through a chronological diary with evaluative commentary.
Analysis – Why did it happen?
The Client-Consultant Relationship – report of your interaction with the client.
In this section, you should examine the processes underpinning the client-consultant relationship and the consulting approaches you undertook.
For healthcare projects, you can discuss how you approached the issue that you chose to address, the processes followed and what you may have wished to have gained through interaction with the client.
Outcomes or Action – What did you learn? What would you do differently next time?
Evaluation – report of your learning throughout the consulting process
In this section, you should discuss how you will use what you learned in the future, perhaps in your professional life, and how would you do things differently based on your experience.
You should employ reflection-related theory and frameworks to explain and interpret your critical reflections (e.g. Borton 1970, Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle 1988, or others you are familiar with).
