Ideas of femininity and masculinity have a strong hold on people’s imaginations and their material selves, even as many question the meaning of gender in their lives. While many hold strongly to ideas of masculinity and femininity, others reject such binaries, mix and match them, or argue for androgyny, gender non-binary identities.
For this assignment is to: 1) write a 500-750 word essay on what you understand gender roles to be, and how they operate in your life. Generally, specifics make essays breathe and come alive.
There is no correct answer; this is a meditation on how gender works in the 21st century, for you. Accompanying your essay is to: 2) “knoll” your ideas of what femininity or masculinity is in your life, or how it operates in your life.
You can choose to “knoll” it as if you are representing the ideal of masculinity or femininity (or whatever else seems relevant), or you can “knoll” it from the vantage of how it operates in your life— significantly, or insignificantly, or chaotically, or absolutely with little effect.
