Compartive history on the theme bodies
In short, you will need to research and write a 5000-word essay on a topic or question relating to ‘Bodies’ in history. The topic you choose is up to you, but the essay should be based on substantial research, including in-depth discussion of the relevant secondary or conceptual literature and probably some analysis of primary sources too.
As with the review essay, where you brought together sources on more than one historical context, the long essay should also have some kind of comparative dimension.
This comparison could involve analysing the situation in different place or time periods; comparing the ideas of important historical thinkers/texts; or applying a concept (e.g. Foucault’s idea of the medical gaze, to take an example from class) to different social/cultural/political settings.
