After having worked for more than 20 years in IT industry, playing role of an individual contributor to senior manager, I have reached a point in career where I can take a decision to follow my passion of doing masters in computing on full time basis.
I did my Bachelor of Technology in Manufacturing Engineering in 1999 with studies in Production, Supply Chain, Inventory Management, Computer Programming, CAM, Automation and other subjects. I did well in Engineering and was a rank holder with 9.25 CGPA (scale of 10), but could not pursue Masters at that time because of family financials. I was interested in computing from my school days, and the computer related studies in my engineering motivated me to take a job in IT industry. I got the first job in manufacturing industry from campus interview, but I opted for out of campus internship in an IT startup. I have worked at both startups and big enterprise that has given me a unique perspective at leadership and problem solving.
Improvisation is something that I have continuously strive to achieve. In the past, I had disrupted myself for learning and successfully applied the philosophy to improve my products and processes. And now I want to disrupt myself again and dedicate a year to full time studies.
I have worked in areas like software development, software delivery and operations, project and process management, customer management and people management. I have proven track record of improvisation in all my work areas which has immensely helped my team, my organization and my customers. My main strength has been around creating new teams and providing a trustworthy growth-based environment for everyone in my team as we created new products using latest technologies.
My job includes handling of complex systems for our customers around the world, which hardly leaves time for pursuing study of subjects apart from my area of work. But COVID forced us to work from home and saved our travel time. This provided me a little more time on hand which I made a good use of.
To start with I took up an online MSc program in Psychology (subject that fascinated me a lot because of my observant nature). I have now completed my 4 semesters and am pursuing my final project due for completion by June 2022.
I also did a Corporate Finance Certificate from CFI as I wanted to improve my understanding of our company finance and balance sheet.
I spent rest of available time on technical studies and got a good hold of cloud technologies and learned machine learning applicability for my area of work.
The time that I have devoted in last one and a half years on studies has made me confident that I am ready to pursue a full-time course.
After due research, I shortlisted US/UK as my destination for education as it is a country with booming IT industry and excellent education system. Graduate programs of 1 year in US/UK also gives me more leverage to pursue Phd or go back to job with advanced knowledge.
I am as excited to learn today as I was 20 years back. I hope to learn not only from professors at the college but also from new undergrads who bring a new perspective to problem solving.
In my spare time, I like to help students with less knowledge on the courses to develop their skills in the areas that I have expertise on. I have always loved educating and apart from coaching various software teams, I have volunteered for teaching at NGOs like AAA and BBB. I find this extremely rewarding as I can pass on what I have learned to help others as well as improve my own knowledge as I answer more and more questions.
And at home, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing with my kid, telling her stories, and teaching her MATHS.
Overall, I feel that I am an extremely hardworking, creative, and an inquisitive person who continuously wants to challenge myself.
I believe that further education in the world of computing can allow me to innovate and create as I study more contemporary subjects in the field of my interest.
I hope to do advanced research in one of the topics and work with professor to publish research work in journal of international repute.
