Provide an evaluation of the factors affecting the way childhood is constructed across different times and societies.
Guidance on answering assessment question:
Your essay should:
Examine how childhood has been portrayed across different societies and at different times (LO 1 & LO4)
Discuss how different perspectives on childhood create different expectations of children (LO 1 & LO4)
Analyze the impact of the social construction of childhood on law, policy and practice (LO2 & LO4).
Consider the above in relation to particular social problems facing children in our days (LO3)

Children have the right to life; their survival and development should be ensured.
Children have the right to freedom of expression
Children have the right to education.
Every child has the right to a standard of living adequate for the child’s physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development.
Children have the right of access to leisure activities and to engage in play and recreation appropriate to the child.
Children have the right to be protected from economic exploitation and from performing any work likely to be harmful to the child’s development.
