Clinical Practice Evaluation 4 Assessment
Over the last five years working as a paraprofessional, I have had the opportunity to hone my skills as an instructor and professional.  I bring to the classroom an air of diversity from my own experiences and embrace the cultural diversity of my students. The students have been able to see what my family looks like and at times my daughters have volunteered in the classroom. I have used different books and examples that reflect the diversity of the classroom and the school.
I live in the community where I work, and my children attended the school in which I work. I am very active in my community and try to set a good example by volunteering my time during the summer and after school. In the past, I was a school board member in the district where I work. I feel that I have shown my school and students the compassion and dedication I have for the school, the students, the staff, and the district.

When I work with the students, I like to try new things and focus on their specific learning styles. Some of my students need more visuals and activities to help them understand the concept. I always have a white board handy along with worksheets that complement the assignment. It is important to be overly prepared in case what you have planned does not work for that student. I have acted out a story and even sang a story to a student; the importance is to make sure that the student is comprehending what is being taught.

During a lesson, I find myself asking the students questions that help me register their understanding of the content. I feel like I do a lot more informal assessments than formal assessments. I have just started doing more IEP goal assessments with the students.

I know that through my student teaching experience, I will have more time to gain a better grasp on what I need to do to be an exceptional teacher. The thing that I want to work on is reflecting on my teaching methods and making appropriate changes for my students.

Hi Everyone,
When looking at these components of evaluation 4, I believe my experience working in a clinical and classroom setting has helped me gain the skills and confidence to become a well-rounded special education teacher. Throughout these years, I have watched and worked alongside people passionate about assisting students in succeeding by implementing evidence-based practices, which have increased my competence in various areas. Some areas of strength are respect for diversity, high expectations, advocacy, and honesty.

While I was working as a Paraeducator, my classroom was full of diversity, making it fun to learn and incorporate students’ traditions and learn about them, which they enjoyed. During this time, I quickly found out that many of these students were not held to high expectations because of their disability, resulting in no progression throughout the years. This also related to poor advocacy, and sometimes families were not always told the truth about their student’s future. This has made me passionate about being transparent and advocate for students.

Areas I can improve on are reflection, application of content, and instructional strategies. As teachers, we should always be learning and growing in different areas. Students are so unique that strategies we may feel comfortable using may not work, and therefore, we have to think outside the box to help that learner succeed. Sometimes reflecting upon myself and the work I do can be challenging for me and is something I want to work on during my student teaching. With my placement this semester, I know I can improve on these areas as I observe my mentor teacher and other teachers in various settings. I love learning new strategies or watching teachers develop innovative ideas that I could use in the future.

Hello,
When I look at the evaluation sheet and assess myself, I would place myself in the proficient range and there are some areas where some might say I’m distinguish but I wouldn’t say it for myself because I like to believe that there is growth that can always be made. I like to believe I am in a state of arriving but never arriving so that way I can always be learning. As a current special education teacher, I engage in all these areas already from adopting learning to fit students’ needs and connecting prior knowledge with new knowledge to challenging students and making learning meaningful. I’m excellent at communicating with families…like really excellent I must say. I go beyond what the job requires when it comes to communicating with parents. Parent have so much going on so I try to lessen the load the best I can. One are I would say I need to strengthen is furthering the profession. I don’t get involve in groups or organizations at the schools that helps develop the education. I always just want to go to work, go into my class, and be with my students and do my job. When other staff ask for support or advice I would help in that sense but anything pass that I struggle to get involve.
