Unit 6 Assignment: RASCI Model and Performance Management.
In this assignment, you will be assessed based on the following Course Outcome:
Analyze methods of innovation and the role of people management in Business Process Management (BPM).
In this assignment, you are going to evaluate a specific business process based on criteria detailed below. If you have already selected a business process, continue using that and skip to the next paragraph.
The Business Process Management style using is Operational Excellence
For this assignment, compose a paper that answers the following questions (use the subheadings/numbered questions below to organize your paper):
Part 1: Innovation Activities
There are many different activities for creating solutions identified in the Understand phase. The effectiveness of these activities depends on many factors, including the organizational makeup and the circumstances of the process.
Describe an innovation activity to generate improvement ideas that you think will work best for your selected organization. Include the following details:
Describe the activity; how is it tied to the activities in your selected process?
Describe the objectives of the activity; how will it improve the deficiencies in your selected process?
Who should be participating, and why?
Part 2: RASCI Model
In any process, it is important to have a clear definition of who is responsible for the activity and to whom they are accountable, in addition to identifying those that may be in support positions.
Following the RASCI model described on p. 362, create a table similar to 18.2 that defines these roles for your selected process. Begin by describing at least four steps in your selected process. Be specific about who does what in each step. Then, fill out the table to denote the roles. In addition to including the table, describe each role briefly.
Part 3: Performance Management
As you explored in the Discussion Board, the performance measures play a large role in determining the actions of the employees involved in the process. Identify three performance management metrics you will use to promote effective behavior from those involved in your selected process.
Clearly explain:
How the metric will be assessed,
What the expected targets would be, and
How the metrics fit the process objectives.

INFO ON PART 2
RACI/RASCI is an abbreviation for:
R = Responsibility—the person who owns the problem or activity.
A = to whom “R” is Accountable—who must sign off (approve) the work before it is effective.
(S) = Supportive—can provide resources or other information in a supporting role in the completion of the process or activity.
C = to be Consulted—has information and/or capability that is necessary to complete the process or activity.
I = to be Informed—must be notified of the results of the process or activity, but need not be consulted during execution.
Some people have added “G” (Governance) to highlight the person who has to ensure that the RA(S)CI elements are being applied and enforced.
These key components (as abbreviations) can be shown in a chart for a particular generic role. Table 18.2 is an example of how five roles interact with the generic role.
Table 18.2 Sample RASCI model
The sequence in completing this table is:
Identify all the activities as defined in step 3 (activity definition) of the People phase, and list them on the vertical axis.
Identify all the likely future roles, list them on the horizontal axis and complete the cells in the table with an R, A, S, C, I for each activity.
Resolve gaps and overlaps. The situation could occur where there are no “Rs,” multiple “Rs” or no “As” for an activity. As a general rule, every activity should have only one “R” and at least one “A.” Gaps and overlaps need resolution or completion before the role is finalized.
