Make a powerpoint slide presentation to discuss the validity of the research, state the quality of the evidence, and state the method used to evaluate the evidence.
There are a few things that you can look at to determine the validity and reliability of a research article.
Some ideas to include:
1. Look at the authors’ credentials (and even where it’s published) – our article was written by both MDs and PhD holders and it was published in JAMA which is a very reputable medical journal so this means the article was peer reviewed and increases the credibility right away.
2. Review the articles contents
3. Examine the evidence – when looking at the quality of evidence would re-read the methods section and basically state that they ensured that if patients were not able to complete the trial or receive both injections of PRP they were removed and replaced by individuals that met the criteria but were able to receive both injections so as not to unfairly affect their results/evidence.
4. Determine bias while reading the article they mentioned a few times that this was a randomized, double blind study so basically the trial participant didn’t know what group they would be placed in and the researchers didn’t know either so this decreases bias which again increases the validity of the whole study and their findings.
