Investigate trends in prescribing opioids for pain
The purpose of this review is to assess the scientific literature for trends in prescribing opioids in the UK and the US only, specifically focusing on the number of opioid prescriptions, the effect of long-term opioid therapy, and examining the factors that influence opioid prescribing levels in the treatment of pain.
This paper will also look at the prevalence of opioid addiction and opioid-related deaths. The review will not focus on any specific class of opioids or the use of opioids in the treatment of specific diseases.
FOCUS ONLY ON THE FOLLOWING:
Section 1: prevalence of opioid addiction (3 sources)
Section 2: Trend of opioid related deaths (3 sources)
Section 3: conclusion (have to include trends of opioid prescriptions, correlation between opioid prescribing and geographical/socioeconomic status, trends of opioid dependence and trends of opioid related deaths)
