For this essay, conduct a rhetorical analysis on some piece of humorous writing. This can be a tweet, an essay, a political cartoon, a website, a photograph, or something you pluck off a friend’s FB feed. The only requirements are that the piece is something relatively recent (within five years) and that it is intended as humor.
Be sure to cite your humorous source in your essay. If you are using a cartoon or comic be sure to include the image at the start of your paper and have a citation for its source in a Works Cited page.
The goal is to look at a humorous article and talk about why it is/isn’t successful based on objective analysis. Be sure to use the terms from the Module in your analysis.
Essay Requirements:
be a rhetorical analysis written on a topic that fits the unit theme: humor
be in third person exclusively
use the terms and techniques learned in the unit to objectively analyze the source
properly cite the source in a Works Cited Page
properly embed the image/comic/media if needed
be 900-1000 words (2-3 pages)
be typed and follow the MLA format guidelines carefully (watch the video lecture in Module 1 for a refresher)
