Evidence-based practice (EBP) is both a goal and an approach that requires a combination of clinical experience with the most credible recent research evidence when making decisions in healthcare practice (Shayan et al., 2019). In your discussion,  plan to focus on the cons of evidence-based practice with support from an article. There are many challenges that occur in evidence-based practice in nursing. The major challenges are: (1) the availability of relevant evidence, (2) the time and ability to interpret evidence appropriately, and (3) the translation of knowledge into clinical practice.

For example, Shayan et al. (2019) mention there are barriers to EBP among nurses in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The author states that various studies have reported on EBP and the extent of utilization of medical information in healthcare systems in LMICs. Shayan et al. (2019) focus on three main themes: (1) institutional-related barriers, (2) nurse-related barriers, and (3) interdisciplinary barriers. The institutional-related barrier was related to the workplace setting, for example, the institution does not have enough resources, no access to information, understaffing, and no support (Shayan et al., 2019). Proponents of EBP assume that integrating evidence in clinical practice increases the quality of health care and patient outcomes. However, this can hardly be achieved without reliable information sources at their workplaces. Shayan et al. (2019) mention that institutions need to provide reliable resources such as Internet access with credible databases for nurses. As for nurse-related barriers, the author mention that nurses need to be educated on EBP due to the advent of an aging population, new technologies emerging, and the dynamic nature of the health needs of the patient (Shatan et al., 2019). Lastly, interdisciplinary barriers to EBP could be attributed to limited interprofessional learning skills among healthcare personnel. Shayan et al. (2019) mention that these could contribute significantly to the low utilization of EBP. This could lead to low awareness in some professional subgroups and confidence in a particular familiar therapy. In conclusion, barriers to EBP are multifactorial. Therefore, it is important to bridge the evidence-to-practice gap in health care.
