Poetry Analysis
Assignment 3
Your essay will analyze several poems with the same or similar theme.
You will discuss how the poet’s theme is presented by analyzing their type of form, word choice, images, tone, etc.
Emphasize word choice and tone in your analysis because those factors can affect your writing choices in essay.
While not assigning required additional chapters in your text that address these and other poetic devices, recommend other chapters that provide an excellent resource to aid you in expanding your analysis. If you select shorter poems, more than two are required.
Access audio recordings of the poems you are reading or others (see details at the end of poems in text.) Part of your analysis can include discussion of the difference between reading the poem and listening to it.
