1. Executive Summary
In teams of 3-4, complete and submit an original term paper of no less than 3 pages and no more than 7 pages (single-spaced).
The term paper is a research project that will allow you to study, in some depth, a specific topic and “tell a story” using statistics.
Choose one subject to research from the term paper subject listing . You should try to choose your topic early, as it is first come first served.
Chose a topic in which you have some interest or knowledge, or you might decide to choose a topic that you know nothing about in attempt to learn something entirely new.
The paper portion of the assignment is focused on the general topic, and your task is to explore that subject, detailing the following:
Describe the set of statistics you are analyzing
What the information is used for, or why it is useful
Indicate how the statistics have been (or are) developed, and who produces the data/analysis
Point out any interesting conclusions you have developed from the data or the analysis of the data
Critique the information, analysis data, and collection method(s)
Any other information or comments you feel would be of the interest to the reader
2. Before Beginning your Papers
Provide a brief outline of your proposal/presentation. The purpose of this review is to ensure that you do not tackle a topic so large as to be unmanageable, or too narrow to be appropriate.
Research means “finding out” or “discovery”, by use of a systematic effort, or information or answers to something you want to know.
You must examine the evidence assessed in your research, and you should provide a balanced report pointing out any issues or problems you find within the data, how it is collected or any other issues you discover.
