Hello, I really enjoyed reading your post, and it seems you had a very strong understanding of the article. Williamson’s message of organizations purpose being to economize the transaction cost while also maximizing profits, almost seems redundant to say but its a concept forgotten by many. Organizations and consumers alike always are trying to find the least expensive options to operate from and this concept he highlighted is just as relevant now that it was back in the 80s when he published his article. In the middle of the post appreciated you discussing your past multinational organization and how many parallels from your organization and the concepts brought up in the article about multinational organizations. I can understand that in order for a corporation of that magnitude to grow requires multi-divisional organization structure to maintain the vast number of acquisitions and different regions of the organization. I definitely agree with you that many of the concepts discussed in this article have stood the test of time and organizations still utilize many of the themes. Good Post!
Hello, great post! I feel that you hit all the points that were asked. I completely agree with you that this article raised many complicated thoughts, causing me to read over sections multiple times. Whenever I am reading a long article online, I like to be able to use control find to refer to things I want to reread or look into further. This was not an option with it being a pdf in that format. I needed to reread multiple sections over, especially with it being an older article. You are spot on that technology will ultimately be able to change the way we do business and is an important part to how we currently operate. I agree with you that although Williams’ article is 40 years old, it has stood the test of time and is still relevant today. You make some great points that businesses today rely on computers and software that allow them to constantly use programming, spreadsheets, excel, email, and message/ video chat. I agree that technology does cut the time down for projects, however, it may eliminate jobs in the process. I think you did a great job explaining organization theory. I think this is an important issue in the workplace and I can compare this to the company I work for as well. I agree with Barnard’s point on employment relation regarding the “need to align incentives, to achieve enterprise viability, defining the role of “informal organization”, and the importance of assent to authority” that you spoke of. I think having localized goals and missions that are trying to align with the broader goal in the company is an important part of a successful company. I enjoyed reading your post, great job!
