Future Concerns and Developmental Programs for aging society in Canada
Among the major population changes that will have a huge impact in Canada, as well as the public policies,in the future is generally the aging population. Such trends are as a result of the increased lower fertility rates as well as the life expectancy increases.
In 2011, aged people over 65 represented 14% of the Canadas population and this is assumed to rise to 25% by 2036. By then, women aged 65 years and over are expected to outnumber men of the same age by approximately 700, 000 as compared to the current statistics which shows that senior women outnumber senior men by 545,000.
Such increases in the rates of aged people are expected to cause a burden to the government financially in terms of public pensions, health care as well as caregiving.
