Health Promotion and Disease Program among the Hmong community
The Hmong community is a group of immigrants from South East Asia who participated in the Vietnam War before moving to the United States of America. They have strong cultural, norms and values, which they have retained over time in memorial.
The existence of human beings is deeply rooted in spiritual beliefs such as the existence of inner soul apart from the physical body. Therefore, a person is distinct from their inner self, however; a deep connection exists with his inner soul in the spiritual world.
To connect with his soul, a person needs intermediaries who know how to appease the soul in the spiritual world and establish communication. In this case, the shamans are the intermediaries and therefore in the Hmong community they are referred to as the spiritual leaders.
