Then, you should write a two-to-three paragraph Situation Analysis that tells us about the organization. The Situation Analysis should end with the problem/opportunity statement.

Written in the present tense.
Describe the situation in specific and measurable terms (if applicable, the what, where, when, who, how, and why, similar to the contents of a SMART objective).

Don’t place blame.
Situation Analysis
A problem statement represents a concise description of the situation, often written in a sentence or short paragraph. In contrast, a situation analysis is the unabridged collection of all that is known about the situation, its history, forces operating on it, and those involved or affected internally and externally.
A situation analysis contains all the background information needed to expand upon and to illustrate in detail the meaning of a problem statement.
This step in the process results in what some practitioners call their “fact book”—the information assembled in three-ring binders or digital files. Sample Situation Analysis From The Learning Resources
Our community is seeing an increase in cancer rates. This year the number of cases has increased by 18 percent. Since our mission is to find a cure for cancer, our organization needs to raise an additional $1 million by the end of this year to expand research, support, and education.
Our research found that our publics—primarily those who have cancer or their family members, as well as survivors—are either confused about the different cancer organizations or don’t know about our mission. There have also been false rumors on social media that we are diverting funds to pay executive salaries.
This has to change if we want to raise more money. But it’s also an opportunity to use our powerful storytelling abilities to engage new audiences and communicate what we stand for and how we’re making a difference.
