Relationship of Designed Space to the Landscape/Natural Environment
Throughout the class, we’ve seen that a comprehensive understanding of buildings and structures often involves not only the form of the building/structure, itself, but also the landscape that encompasses it.
Select and analyze three works that were presented in class after the midterm and discuss the way in which they either reflect beliefs about the landscape/natural environment that surrounds them or were designed to function in concert with it.
You should be careful to select examples that possess a strong relationship to the landscape/natural environment (not all works presented in class or in your textbook were discussed in terms of such a relationship).
This question is not limited strictly to individual buildings; you may also choose site plans or designed landscapes as examples to illustrate your answer.
For each work, your discussion should include the plan, exterior/interior form (if applicable), and relationship to the surrounding landscape. Where appropriate, discuss the influence of technological advances that contributed to the design of the work discussed.
