Before beginning this assignment review pages 5-9 and 26-28 in AACN (2008) The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice. Also review Appendix B in the syllabus.
You will write the opening sections of your paper as follows:
Introduction – Write an introduction to your paper using the general to specific development. End your introductory paragraph with a statement describing what the reader can expect from your paper, the purpose of your paper, also called a thesis statement.
Describe your personal view of nursing. Questions you will consider in writing this section are:
What is nursing to you?
How is nursing unique compared to other health care professions?
If nurses were not caring for patients, what would be missing from their care?
Describe at least three values/beliefs that are important to you. Describe how your values affect your nursing practice and how nursing practice affects your values. Questions you will consider in writing this section are:
What is important to you?
What are your beliefs?
How do your values and beliefs influence you as a nurse?
How does nursing challenge your values and beliefs?
Compare your personal values and beliefs with the values described in the 2008 AACN Baccalaureate Essentials. Questions you will consider in writing this section are:
Which AACN values are represented by your personal values?
How are your values and beliefs alike or different from the AACN values?
If some of the AACN values are not represented by your personal values explain why.
Summarize the main points you have made in your paper in the Conclusion.
*Be sure your finished product flows as one paper.
Format your reference list in APA format – the AACN essentials document should be included in your reference list.
The personal philosophy paper will be evaluated as follows using the rubric in appendix B.
Depth of thought, clarity, specificity, conciseness of the items above.
Use of professional language, grammar, punctuation neatness of presentation.
Paper should be no longer than 3 pages in length (excluding title page and reference page).
