Every manager uses their own way of leading staff to achieve targets and desired corporate goals, run the business smoothly as well as ensure they get the best out of their staff (Dess and Picken, 2000). Many managers working by experience without understanding what kind of leadership style they use (Cadwell and Caroselli, 2004).
The following study is aiming to examine the impact of various leadership styles on employee’s sales productivity, motivation and job satisfaction. To achieve that, a questionnaire is produced so from the employees’ and manager’s answers, the leadership style used will be identified
. Also, the employees’ thoughts and answers about how they feeling and acting on the way their manager is leading them will be examined. The reasons why the manager is using a specific leadership style will be considered.
A conclusion will follow, depending on the answers given and help the organisation understand if the leadership style used in the organisation at the moment make the employees happy and help them increase sales productivity.
In the case the leadership style used is not the best, the ideal leadership style will be recommended to the manager so the organisation can improve sales and employee motivation in the future.
The Rationale for Choosing the Research Topic
The following study will be conducted to help both managers and employees of the hair salon. The study is aimed to help managers understand leadership styles and identify their current leadership style.
Based on the results, the managers should also be able to find out which leadership style should be used to achieve the highest employee sales productivity and job satisfaction. The study is also aimed to help employees achieve the level of motivation and happiness desired in order to be more productive at work and achieve future career growth.
Personally, this research would help me in my future career as a future store manager in a beauty retail shop in order to become able to understand my employees and achieve high employee motivation and sales productivity.
Aim and Objectives:
This investigation aims to illustrate which is the most effective leadership style to achieve better sales productivity and increase motivation in a hair salon.
The objectives are:
• Identify which leadership style is currently used by the manager and why.
• Measure the employees’ motivation and job satisfaction.
• Obtain employees’ motivation if the leadership style was different.
• Determine which leadership style should be used for higher productivity in the retail sector of the beauty salon.
Research Questions and Related Methodology:
The following questions are aimed to be answered by the end of this research:
• Identification of which leadership style is used in the hair salon store.
• Critically examine the outcomes of an effective leadership style.
• Evaluate the effects of all four leadership styles on employees’ sales productivity and motivation.
• Investigate the impact of autocratic leadership style on employees motivation.
• Examine the use of a democratic leadership style, and how it can positively affect the salon’s employee performance and job satisfaction.
