Identify, analyse and evaluate two ‘real world’ examples of matters involving questions of professionalism and ethics relevant to the Module, so that you develop and present arguments on relevant issues.
The Task requires you to select appropriate examples, explore how they illustrate issues considered in the Module, and analyse/evaluate those examples so that you develop and present your own views/arguments on those issues.
‘Real world’ examples are broadly defined to include items from news reports (both legal and general news), blog entries (from sources such as those noted in the Study Guide introduction), and also items from ‘popular culture’, such as TV programmes, or films. You must not use actual PBL problems as your examples.
Your examples must comply with the following requirements:
(a) there must be two in number;
(b) at least one must relate to the Legal Profession specifically (the other may relate to other professions, such as the medical profession and/or ethical matters more generally); and
(c) if you made a Formative Submission, neither example can use the same Example that you submitted, nor cover the same issues and/or material if the result is that the content is substantially the same.
You can select:
(i) two ‘Potential’ ‘Examples’ from those provided below;
(ii) two of your own examples; or
(iii) one of those provided below, and one that you identify yourself.
You will need to analyse issues raised by the examples selected. This should demonstrate your understanding of relevant module content and ability to apply it to analyse examples that you have selected yourself. Also ensure that you relate your analysis to academic literature and principled argument.
Although this Task focuses on ‘application’ of knowledge more than a ‘general essay’, you should still write as a formal piece of academic work, and so should reference sources properly, for example. As far as possible, you should follow an ‘essay’ style format for your work on each of the examples (See the ‘P&E Task Submission Example’, on the VLE).
