To what extent does sociology have an impact on social reform?

In Introduction to Sociology chapter 1, the author writes that the study of sociology has lead to many important social reforms, such as Brown vs. Board of education. Besides racial reforms, sociology has also led to reforms in different institutions like the prison system reform and a more equal workplace for women.

In my opinion, I think that sociology plays one of the biggest roles in social reform. By understanding the perspective of different people and society, it creates a more open perspective of the world and makes people more aware about the different experiences that other people go through.

Not only that, it “prepares them to live and work in an increasingly diverse and integrated world.” Movements such as BLM and LGBTQ is a result of this.

People become more aware of the world around them and to see issues that they wouldn’t have considered before if not for sociology.
