Press information

For the past forty years, the organization has been able to respond to the hunger-related crisis in the United States through the provision of food to needy individuals by using a network of food banks that are located all over the country.

Thanks to various contributions by different organizations and individuals to Feeding America, the number of needy children who have accessed food has significantly increased. As the organization also guarantees to provide more basic needs such as health care, every single dollar could play an important role in an individual’s life.

The Covid-19 pandemic, based on USDA’s state report, has led to over 13 million children out of 40 million Americans being faced with life-threatening cases of hunger in the United States.

Strangely, many of these individuals and families were facing hunger issues way before the onset of the pandemic in the country (Scola & Brown, 2020). Moreover, many individuals in the US are currently one medical crisis or job loss from total food insecurity. Children and the elderly populations face a higher hunger risk than other individuals.

This campaign is organized to allow individuals to contribute to any existing foodbank collection. Many households who face hunger issues in the country have not qualified for the Federal Nutrition Programs. Therefore, most of these individuals turn to other organizations and the local food banks, especially during this difficult period.

Recent surveys have established that 40% of people currently turning up for help at our foodbanks had never sought aid from the foodbanks before (Alkaabneh et al., 2021). This factor has been generated by the fact that most people, over 11 million, in the United States have lost their jobs.

The rise in the number of vulnerable individuals seeking aid from these local foodbanks has significantly increased and very soon the foodbanks may run out of food as it is predicted that the virus has continued to affect more sectors of the economy. So, it is important that we could join hands to fight the increasingly rising hunger threat.
