Adapted from Driscoll (2005), p.183.
Learning can be described and understood as a metaphor (e.g. learning is information processing [a computer metaphor]; learning is growing [an organismic process]; learning is making progress toward a goal [a travel metaphor]; learning is participating in a community [a situative metaphor].
Each of these can describe learning but each from a different perspective. The perspective maybe personal (what resonates with your personality) or the context in which the learning is taking place. Pick one of the metaphors above or another of your choosing, help us to understand the metaphor-define and defend your choice.
