The Little Refugee is an engaging, yet information, story about Anh Do’s journey from war-torn Vietnam to Australia as a child refugee. The book details the struggles his family faced leaving their home, overcoming starvation and pirates, only to arrive in Australia to face a whole new set of challenges.
The book uses humour and themes of hope to keep the reader engaged through confronting or emotional aspects; and uses evocative illustrations to compliment the story, providing another layer of meaning and depth to the narrative.
The purpose of this text it to provide young readers with access to the refugee experience, offering an age appropriate narrative whilst retaining authenticity
