According to the International Council of Nursing, nursing involves autonomous and collaborative care of people of all ages which includes families, communities and groups, and those who are well or sick in al settings (Shamian, 867). Nursing encompasses prevention of illnesses, health promotion, and care for the ill, disabled and the dying.
Additional key roles in nursing also include advocacy, research, participation in promoting a safe environment, taking part in shaping the health policy, managing patient and health systems, as well as educating the public (Shamian, 867).
