While Susan Dynarski asserts that the current US system of ascertaining the eligibility criteria for learners in need of subsidized school meals is ineffective, the program has proven to be crucial in promoting the learners’ health and well-being.
Although there are indeed a considerable number of students who are eligible for the subsidized meals in schools, yet they do not actually fall in the category of the neediest learners (Dynarski, 2016), the school lunch program has greatly helped the low-income students by ensuring that they have the needed nutrition to carry out the learning activities of the day.
