Discuss the role of the RN or APRN in Policy-Making
One of the opportunities that exist is the availability of professional organizations like the American Nurses Association that allow them to participate in policymaking.
The second opportunity is the work environment that allows them to offer policy reviews and ensure that policies are effectively implemented (Milstead & Short, 2019). One of the challenges is the complex procedures associated with membership in professional organizations.
Also, some workplaces might not keep RNs and APRNs updated on the current policies due to poor leadership (Tummers & Bekkers, 2014).
These challenges can be overcome by having a simple process for joining the organizations and establishing efficient workplace communication. Some of the ways of effectively communicating these opportunities are offering training and guidance to RNs and APRNs.
For example, professional organizations should train them on the registration process and their role in the policymaking process.
