2. Identify a significant current issue that impacts you in your current educational setting. What are the underlying sociological, ideological and legal roots related to the issues?
Discuss how the issue results in conflict in the educational setting? What are effective solutions to the conflicts related to the issue?
In your response, refer to the empirical work of at least two theorists and their contributions related to each of the solutions.
3. Select one of the following educational policies to implement in your setting: teacher dress code, a change in school boundaries, the required use of authentic assessment, elimination of teacher tenure, evaluation of teachers based on standardized test scores, merit pay, restrictions to academic freedom or implementation of full inclusion of special needs students.
a. Examine the value conflicts and legal issues that are inherent among educators in regard to the policy.
b. Identify the resistance that might be anticipated regarding implementation.
c. Develop a plan with a strong rationale for successful implementation in your setting, district, county or state.
d. Cite those theorists whose work supports your plan.
4. Sociologists and educators have developed a range of arguments to explain the achievement gap between white students and minority students.
Analyze two contrasting theoretical interpretations of this phenomenon and examine the differences between the two positions.
Discuss the implications of each theoretical argument related to school-based interventions and the recommendations that each theorist would make to improve academic achievement.
