If you could change the way that people interact on line with regard to online shaming, what is the first thing you’d do? What have you chosen this approach?

2.What do you believe is the best way to support victims of online shaming and harassment, both during and after an incident? Is this support something that each of us as individuals has a responsibility to perform, or is there a bigger effort that should take place?

Is it realistic to believe that individuals would risk themselves to come to the assistance of others? Why or why not?

3.How has today’s polarized environment impacted the issue of online shaming and harassment? Be specific and give more than one example.

4.“Public humiliation is a commodity and shame is an industry,” Ms. Lewinsky says. “How is the money made? Clicks. The more shame, the more clicks.

The more clicks, the more advertising dollars.” Why do you think we are drawn to clicking on content that shames others? How often do you do it? Do you believe that it is ethical for companies to monetize the pain of others? Why or why not?

5.What do you think that we, as a society, can or should be doing about this issue? What can you do as an individual? Do we need a “cultural revolution” to create an online culture of compassion and empathy, as Ms. Lewinsky says? Give multiple examples.
