Attendees will be led through an evaluation of the Wakanda (pseudonym) program in Chicago and its success in serving African American and Mexican American secondary students using critical race theory (CRT).
The session will set a clear context of the research surrounding college retention for African American and Mexican secondary students and how this program has built on it and made great strides.
The focus of the session is to show how being methodical in the use of CRT and emancipatory theory has created a Wakanda world where students have thrived socially and academically.
The aforementioned students will be present to discuss how the use of CRT has changed their lives and their perceptions of themselves as change agents in their own communities. Only learner about one group limits a race.
