Gender Violence
Gender violence is an act that aids in upholding inequalities in structural gender. It comprises various violence against children, women, men, gays, and transgender individuals.
Gender relations at some point influence this form of violence. To address these issues of violence, cultural matters must be addressed since they advocate for violence as a masculinity unit.
Question: What are the main causes of gender violence?
Harmful Gender Norms
Stereotypes involving gender are sometimes used in justifying violence against women. Men are considered aggressive, dominant, and controlling bicultural norms, while women are considered subservient, docile, and mostly rely on men as their providers.
These norms foster cultural abuse such as female genital defacement and obligatory early marriages
Hunger
The food crisis has been another contributing factor to gender-based violence. Has a family looks forward to getting a dowry, girls, and women experience early marriages to settle their food bills. Some girls and women get sexually exploited in order to secure jobs
War and Conflict
Early childhood marriages have to be common in areas experiencing war. Some parents give away their daughters for security purposes, either not to be attacked or to protect their child. Older women who cannot be exchanged for a bride faces dangers during this wartime, such as sexual exploitation.
Question: What are some of the plans and projects fighting hunger and harmful gender norms?
A non-governmental organization has come up with a guiding program that assists men in realizing their impact on children and women’s life hence shunning away cultural mindset towards women. They also provided psychosocial support to women, especially the old ones, who face sexual exploitation.
