Module Goals
After completing this module, students will be able to do the following:
• Accurately complete and document musculoskeletal and neurological assessments
• Assess and predict risks for older adults in the community
• Provide risk prevention strategies for older adults living at home in the community
• Develop an emergency plan for an older adult living at home in the community
Overview
This week we will look at an assessment of older adults (OA) with a focus on normative aging changes. New information highlights the importance of shifting assessment to geriatric conditions that fall outside traditional disease models but instead are strongly linked to activities of daily living.
Managing these conditions of cognitive impairment, falls, incontinence, low body mass index, dizziness, impaired vision and hearing presents special opportunities and special challenges.
