MBA TOP UP PAPER (consultancy project) the food supply chain in the UAE and other GCC countries has been (and still is to a certain extent) very complex with the whole market still working with an old school trader mentality.
As the UAE doesn’t produce many food products themselves, 90-95% of all food items are still imported through various parties such as distributors, traders or wholesalers, all of which handle the various products multiple times and add their own margins.
All these factors add to food prices being inflated due to this “multi-margin madness” and adds unnecessary risks and uncertainties.
This projects aim is to highlight past and current issues within the supply chain in detail and to propose various solutions on how to improve the whole food supply chain in the middle east to give end customers in the foodservice industry a more efficient, reliable and cost-effective way of purchasing their core products and using them in their kitchens
