Assignment detail: 1)
Presentation content guidance The second Capstone oral presentation will assess students’ ability to lucidly and accurately communicate their (initial) research findings.
The presentation should include the following subsections. A title slide – Include your name, student number, supervisor’s name
Introduction – A brief introduction to the research topic outlining the rationale for the research question should be included( extensive details not required as it was already mentioned on presentation
1). The introduction should therefore identify the main points required to justify the “knowledge gap” that your study is aiming to fill.
There should be a brief recap of the project’s objective.
Methods – Outline the methods followed for data collection/performance of the project. Consider the most effective means of communicating the methods in a short timeframe (e.g., a flow diagram of the steps taken).
Results – As in a research conference presentation, the results should be the focal point of the presentation.
The oral presentation is simply designed to assess how effectively you can present the data/findings/outputs in a scientific manner.
Consider the most appropriate approach to presenting your data (e.g., graphs, tables). If you have performed statistical analysis, indicate any statistically significant changes in your dataset as well as the number of replicates.
If you have collected a large amount of data, then you may need to be selective in terms of what you can effectively present in the allotted time. Any data not included in the presentation can be included in your dissertation.
Note that you do not necessarily need to present your data in chronological order of data collection if there is a more logical order that better “tells the story”.
When presenting your results in an oral presentation, you may also provide interpretation/explanation alongside a description of the results.
Discussion/Conclusions – Based on your results, interpret your findings within the broader context of the field.
References – It is recommended that you include citations within your slides where relevant. A slide containing appropriate references should be included. As well as providing references. Assessment will be based on:
1) Presentation quality
2) Scientific content
3) References
4) Ability to answer questions.
