In this assignment you are asked to assume the role of a government health official working for a region of the country. Your task is to propose an intervention to address a specific sexual health problem that has arisen in your region.
The setting
Your region has one small city, 4 towns, and rural areas comprising 150 villages.
You have a budget of £1 million and a timeframe of 3 years to implement an intervention which will address a specific sexual health issue in your area.
The issue
Mobile populations at higher risk of adverse sexual health outcomes.
Government statistics show that for the past five years, there has been a year-on-year increase in numbers of people migrating to the city from neighbouring rural areas. An estimated 20,000 migrants have arrived in the past 5 years.
The majority are economic migrants in search of work. They are concentrated in two large slum areas in the inner city.
The government commissioned a study, which showed that these migrants are at higher risk of STIs, poor pregnancy outcomes and of experiencing sexual violence.
You are asked to design an intervention to address the needs of migrants in your area.
The task
In order to receive the money for an intervention, you are requested to present an intervention proposal to your superiors. In this proposal, you must describe the problem, outline your proposed intervention and how it will be implemented and suggest an approach to evaluate the intervention.
