History of Hispaniola
As an introduction to the course, you will watch Haiti & Dominican Republic: An Island Divided, a full episode of the PBS documentary series Black in Latin America. In addition, you will submit a 3 page double-spaced reflection paper. It can be by answering the simple question: Do you believe that many Dominicans deny the African components of their DNA, culture and history? Be sure to refer to the documentary as your source (you can use additional sources, but it is not mandatory) and feel free to add as much personal experiences as you would like.
