Main task – write a report to address the following topic:Critically assess the impact on labour market outcomes of the increased popularity and use of flexible working and working from home in recent years. Pay particular attention not only to the choices made by- and outcomes for employers and workers at the aggregate level, but also to the potential for different (groups of) participants in the labour market to be affected differently.
Context
Over the last couple of decades there has been a marked increase in flexible working and working from home has become more common and less stigmatised. Research into these practices suggests that there might be significant gains in productivity as well as worker wellbeing as a result of embracing these modes of work. This issue has gained even more prominence in the current pandemic circumstances. (note that you are invited to consider flexible working and working from home in more general terms and not necessarily in the covid context – you are already bombarded with enough virus information on a daily basis and this coursework does not seek to add to that load.)
