In this assignment you will critically reflect on the factors that contribute to effective lessons in your specialist subject. In preparation, you will have some input from your subject tutor and you will also be expected to independently access relevant academic, policy and practice literature. Within the assignment itself you will be expected to:
•produce a short literature review based on your reading which should include reference to relevant literature concerning subject pedagogy and may include some reference to how general theories of teaching and learning relate to your subject.
•explain how you have used some of the information from your literature review to help you plan and deliver a short sequence of lessons in your subject.
•analyse the lessons that you have planned and delivered. You may wish to look at a sequence of about 3 lessons or you may wish to focus in on one lesson in particular to illuminate your understanding of effective learning in your subject (this choice may depend on the delivery pattern for your particular subject). Ensure that you evaluate the lessons in terms of pupil learning and progress as well as the quality of your teaching.
•reflect on how engaging with this assignment has developed and improved your practice, and what your next steps in developing your practice will be.Each of the above four components carries an equal mark weighting, and you should bear this in mind in allocating space within the assignment (which has a maximum word count). To achieve secure Masters Level it is important that you continue to reference literature throughoutthe assignment to support your analysis, and use correct APA referencing protocols. You must provide a list of references as an appendix, and should aim for this to be reasonably extensive. What makes an effective subjectlesson?
