Students taking Algebra III at Southeast High School will write an essay over a
math topic of their choosing. Students will select their topic from the approved topics list.
This essay will be 3-5 pages long, double-spaced, using 12 point Arial font. The essay
will also include a bibliography, which will not count as a page for the essay. The
bibliography will contain at least 3 sources, which the students will use in the essay.
Students will turn in a copy of their essay into Canvas to receive credit. Students will
use the MLA format for their essay and for citing their sources. This essay is due on
Dec. 8, 2020 for up to full credit. Late essays will incur a 10% reduction in grade for
every day it is late. This essay is worth 10% of the overall grade for this semester.
In this essay, students should answer the following:
1. Who are the people involved?
2. Give a description of the theorem and/or the time period
3. When did this take place? What were the events leading up to the discovery?
4. Where did this take place?
5. Why is this significant? How does this apply to real life?
